Saturday was wonderful. We had a black cloth laid out with ARREST BUSH and WAITING FOR PEACE signs at the corners. We used black ribbon to tie cards with our statement (below) on 600 long stem white roses (Joan, was that tie your idea? it worked beautifully.) People surrounded our area at the left of the stage in the sunshine. They were so moved by the card. Leslie Cagan had put notice on the UFPJ site about the White Rose campaign so people arrived with roses strung throughout their backpacks. I met a woman whose son is in Iraq, she was so appreciative and enthusiastic. Elaine Brower, Carole Huston , and many more were fantastic getting the word out. Susan and Laurie spoke with a group who live on the border of Mexico. They'd like the Spanish shirts for actions at home...

..We asked that people lay the roses in front of the White House. I don't know if this happened, no matter, it was a magnificent day. This is the text on the backs of the cards (as in above shot)

WE WILL NOT BE SILENT was a statement of The White Rose resistance movement in Nazi Germany. Today we have built a national campaign based on that message. We have delivered white roses to Congress as a symbolic gesture to demand that they end the occupation of Iraq, and bring to justice those responsible for a U.S. policy of torture and illegal detentions. We are determined to restore common decency and the rule of law and we will hold Congress accountable to that task.
